Italian automaker Fiat plans to relaunch the iconic 500e electric hatchback in the US market in early 2024, according to the Fiat USA website. Excitingly, the Fiat 500e will advance as one of the cheapest options in the country, with its base price of just below $33,000.
The return of the Fiat 500e
The Fiat 500e was initially a “compliance car” that only had a driving range of 84 miles. It was also only available in three US states at that time, according to Electrek.
The return of the iconic Fiat 500e will offer a more powerful performance and contemporary features compared to the initial model that hit the US market. It will also have a longer driving range for a more affordable MSRP price of $32,500 (before destination), as per recent order guide data.
What’s currently known about the 2024 Fiat 500e?
Fiat indicated on its website that customers can access the 2024 500e’s official specifications on Monday, December 4.
However, autoevolution has these pieces of information about the model’s features:
- Standard 17″ aluminum wheels mounted with 205/45 R17 tires
- FWD 500e has a 10.25″ touchscreen infotainment system (that would be Uconnect 5)
- Satellite navigation
- Bucket-style cloth seats with red accents
The automaker has yet to reveal the driving range of the US-spec 500e. For reference, the European-spec model apparently has a WLTP-estimated combined driving range of 330 km (205 mi) from the larger of two battery packs.
About Fiat
Fiat penetrated the North American market in the early 1900s. However, it has pulled back multiple times already due to weak demand and sales performance.
It returned to the region in 2011 after it gained a share in the stumbling Chrysler brand in 2009.
After some years, Fiat-Chrysler merged with Peugeot SA to establish the Stellantis brand in January 2021. However, Fiat’s vehicle sales remained weak.
So far this year, the brand’s sales only reached a total of 427 units in the US (down 46% YoY).
The new Fiat 500e is currently one of the top-selling EV models in the European market. That said, it will not be surprising if the model also advances in the US, given its competitive pricing. It can potentially aid the brand in boosting its sales in the US market after years of decline.
