What’s currently known about the Bao 5?

According to Car News China, the Bao 5 is a plug-in hybrid off-road SUV that costs 300,000-400,000 yuan (41,000-54,000 USD).

Technical details

Bao 5 will be the first offering to employ BYD’s latest Dual Mode Off-road (DMO) Super Hybrid Platform. It will also feature the DiSus-P Hydraulic body control system.

Today, BYD held a press conference for the Fang Cheng Bao brand and DMO technology—a super off-road hybrid platform—and showcased the brand's first model, the Bao 5 (Bao meaning leopard), at the venue. #BYD #FangChengBao #OffRoad #Hybrid pic.twitter.com/PmHZowAuPA

It has a four-wheel drive system includes a 1.5T engine with 143 kW/273 Nm output. Meanwhile, the dual front and rear motors generate a maximum output of 200 kW/360 Nm and 285 kW/400 Nm, correspondingly.

The Bao 5 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, while its fuel consumption rate is 7.8L/100km.

It will also feature a 31.8 kWh Blade battery pack that generates an all-electric range of 125 km under CLTC standards. Meanwhile, its total cruising range can hit 1,200 km.

Interior

Fortunately, BYD already released some interior photos of the Bao 5 this month. The Chinese NEV giant boasted that the model’s interior design is largely influenced by the “lock” concept. It “symbolizes connection and uniqueness, giving it a heavy industrial vibe.”

The model has a total of three screens, including a 12.3″ instrument panel, a 15.6″ resolution central control, and a 12.3″ front passenger entertainment screen.

It also offers an AR head-up display with a sufficient, comfortable space for five people.

Fang Cheng Bao brand

Fang Cheng Bao is already the fifth sub-brand of the Chinese NEV and power battery giant BYD after the Dynasty, Ocean, Denza, and Yangwang. It is a mid-luxury brand between Yangwang and Denza brands.

BYD initially launched the Fang Cheng Bao in early September 2023.

As discussed, the Bao 5 is its first-ever production car. It announced plans to launch two more models, including the Super 8 and the Bao 3.

As per the regulatory filing earlier this month, it undergoes production in the company’s Pingshan factory.

BYD plans to formally launch the Bao 5 in the Chinese market in late 2023. Deliveries will immediately follow in the same year. Its presales officially launched in August at the Chengdu Auto Show for a deposit fee of 1,000 yuan (140 USD). The brand pledged to return the deposit fee as a 3,000 yuan (410 USD) discount upon full payment.
