BYD’s newly launched sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao officially produced its maiden electrified model on Wednesday. According to CnEVPost, the plug-in hybrid Bao 5, also known as Leopard 5, rolled off the production line a month after the brand opened its presales.
Neither the brand nor its parent company disclosed additional details about the model. Nonetheless, BYD revealed the official specifications of the model.
What’s currently known about the Bao 5?
According to Car News China, the Bao 5 is a plug-in hybrid off-road SUV that costs 300,000-400,000 yuan (41,000-54,000 USD).
Technical details
Bao 5 will be the first offering to employ BYD’s latest Dual Mode Off-road (DMO) Super Hybrid Platform. It will also feature the DiSus-P Hydraulic body control system.
It has a four-wheel drive system includes a 1.5T engine with 143 kW/273 Nm output. Meanwhile, the dual front and rear motors generate a maximum output of 200 kW/360 Nm and 285 kW/400 Nm, correspondingly.

Interior
Fortunately, BYD already released some interior photos of the Bao 5 this month. The Chinese NEV giant boasted that the model’s interior design is largely influenced by the “lock” concept. It “symbolizes connection and uniqueness, giving it a heavy industrial vibe.”
The model has a total of three screens, including a 12.3″ instrument panel, a 15.6″ resolution central control, and a 12.3″ front passenger entertainment screen.
It also offers an AR head-up display with a sufficient, comfortable space for five people.
Fang Cheng Bao brand
Fang Cheng Bao is already the fifth sub-brand of the Chinese NEV and power battery giant BYD after the Dynasty, Ocean, Denza, and Yangwang. It is a mid-luxury brand between Yangwang and Denza brands.
BYD initially launched the Fang Cheng Bao in early September 2023.
As discussed, the Bao 5 is its first-ever production car. It announced plans to launch two more models, including the Super 8 and the Bao 3.
As per the regulatory filing earlier this month, it undergoes production in the company’s Pingshan factory.
