US-based electric vehicle DC fast charging provider EVgo announced Monday plans to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors into its nationwide network.
Notably, the announcement emerged following Ford, ABB E-mobility, and General Motors’ decision to support Tesla’s charging connectors by 2025 onwards.
How would it work?
EVgo has been effectively using integrated Tesla connectors since 2020. Now, the company is eager to adopt the NACS connectors across its network as more EVs would utilize the said technology, per the latest announcements.
According to EVgo CEO Cathy Zoi, the company will equip its future and select current chargers with the NACS connector.
However, the company has not yet indicated the exact timeline for retrofitting its chargers with Tesla’s connector.
“As a first mover in EV charging, EVgo has a history of delivering for all EV drivers, evolving from CHAdeMO only to CHAdeMO and CCS, and now CHAdeMO, CCS, and NACS through both integrated connectors and Tesla to CCS adapters. We believe these developments will help to accelerate EV adoption rates and sales, which in turn will spur throughput growth on EVgo’s network.”

The Chief Executive further stated that the company would determine which upcoming updates or replacements can also incorporate a NACS connector while EVgo RenewTM is underway.
“EVgo’s long-term success is directly tied to EV adoption at scale, our fantastic partnerships, and our continued technology leadership. All of our automaker partnerships continue apace, and the dozens of new electric vehicle models coming to market in combination with the expansion of access to charging for NACS and CCS vehicles will help take us even closer to making our vision of Electric for All a reality.”

It is also worth noting that the number of automakers supporting Tesla’s connector has been increasing these past days, urging charging providers to also adopt the technology.
