CEO Musk offers glimpse of EVs in the pipeline

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk teased three upcoming electric vehicle models on Thursday, a crucial move to revive its once robust sales growth that its ageing lineup has partly impeded.

The Tesla boss proudly stated that the yet-to-be-unveiled models are already in the works. In the meantime, CEO Musk only presented a slide with drawings of three EVs concealed by white sheets.

Apart from that, CEO Musk omitted from sharing any more details about the three upcoming Tesla EVs.

“Obviously we’ve got some new products that we’re working on under the covers. I think these are going to be pretty special. At first people may think some of them won’t be amazing, but wait, it will be.”

Details remain under wraps

While details of the next-gen Tesla EVs remain under wraps, the illustrations presented during the 2024 Annual Shareholder Meeting revealed that one of the models is a tall, boxy van of some kind.

On the other hand, the two other models in white sheets appeared lower and sleeker than the other one.

Tesla recently announced plans to introduce the highly awaited robotaxi on August 8. Therefore, it is highly likely that the robotaxi is one of the concealed models in the presentation.

In April, Tesla also pledged to accelerate the launch of its new EV offerings. The mix includes its planned low-cost models for the mass market as the American electric automaker seeks to compete with the surge of cheap China-made EVs.

At the time, Tesla said that these affordable EVs should hit the market by the end of the year or early 2025.

“We have updated our future vehicle lineup to accelerate the launch of new models ahead of our previously communicated start of production in the second half of 2025.”

Tesla CEO stated during the Earnings Conference Call in April 2024

In addition, the company presented similar photos of two mystery EVs in April under its Master Plan Part 3. It indicated in the document that Tesla equivalents of an electric compact car, commercial/passenger van, and bus were “TBD.”

Significance

Industry analysts have been warning Tesla that its ageing electric vehicle lineup could potentially weaken its current market dominance. They worry that the currently popular Tesla Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover could no longer carry the automaker’s growth in the coming years.

True enough, Tesla’s EV deliveries declined 8.5% in the first quarter of 2024 after years of consistent robust growth.

Therefore, the imminent launch of three new EV offerings is undoubtedly good news for Tesla investors and fans. These new models could potentially attract current drivers and new buyers of electric vehicles to join Tesla’s tremendous owner’s community.
