Croatian automaker Rimac Automobili recently announced that the Nevera supercar had achieved 23 performance records in just a day, including a 0-60 mph acceleration in 1.74 seconds and an exceptional half-mile run in 12.82 seconds.
In addition, the supercar can accelerate from 0-249 mph and then brake to 0 mph in 29.93 seconds, essentially surpassing its previous record by over a second. Nevera’s 258 mph top speed also advances its position as the fastest electric production car in history.
Tesla CEO Musk’s reaction
Despite those remarkable records, it apparently made Tesla CEO Elon Musk laugh. He responded “lol” (laughing out loud) to a Twitter post regarding Nevera’s achievements.
It is worth noting that the news occurred just a day following CEO Musk’s statement during the 2023 Shareholder Meeting that Tesla may finally begin the production of the highly awaited second-gen Tesla Roadster in 2024.
“We expect to complete the engineering and design of the next-gen Tesla Roadster this year and hopefully – this is not a commitment – start production next year.”

What’s currently known about the Tesla Roadster?
The Tesla Roadster is a 2+2-seat sports car, initially unveiled as a concept in 2017. However, the automaker delayed its production as it focused on other electric models.
At that time, Tesla originally claimed that the sports car would have a “+250 mph” top speed, saying it would be the world’s fastest car. The automaker also advertised that it would have a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 1.9 seconds, which could have been a record then.
Since the initial announcement, CEO Musk additionally hinted in 2021 that Tesla will further improve the Roadster’s speed. He even asserted that the company is devising an upgrade through SpaceX’s cold gas thrusters, enabling an acceleration of 0-60 mph in just 1.1 seconds and “fly very briefly.”
However, it must be noted that Tesla still needs to demonstrate the said technology, with plans to finish development and design this year. Meanwhile, production may finally start the following year.

Despite the production delays, Tesla still accepts Roadster reservations for a $50,000 deposit. It is also worth noting that Tesla’s official website initially indicated a $200,000 price for the Roadster, but it has already been removed.
