SaskEV, a group of electric car owners and advocates, launched the third annual Saskatoon Electric Vehicle Expo or “Charged Up” event on September 16.
The organization aims to show off various EV models, along with educating initiatives, home accessories, and other relevant products and services.
About Charged-Up
Charged-Up Saskatoon Electric Vehicle Expo is a free automotive event in the community of Saskatoon, the biggest city in Saskatchewan, Canada.
TCU Place hosted the EV expo in partnership with SaskEV, as indicated on its website.
Saskatchewan-based organization Sask EV was once again the title sponsor of the special event. For context, it comprises dedicated EV owners and clean mobility shift supporters in the Canadian province.
“The expertise and collective experience of our members serve as a resource for current and future EV owners in this province and beyond. We are passionate advocates for cleaner transportation that is primarily electric.”

Show highlights
The Charged-Up EV show focused on exhibiting various electric vehicle models and other related products and services facilitated by different companies and organizations.
“Since 2018 there are rapid chargers through the province, including in the city of Saskatoon and the major highways. Non-Tesla vehicles have access to that same networks, and can charge much more easily, and have more flexibility in terms of where they can go.”
Malcolm Lucy, Sask-EV President
CTV News highlighted engineering student Myles Wright’s pet project that he showcased at the event.
Wright converted an iconic gas-powered 1970s Dodge half-ton truck to an all-electric vehicle.
“It started as an ordinary gas-powered vehicle that worked ok. But with all the gas-related hassles, I decided to avoid it and go straight electric. I used a ton of golf cart batteries- about 24 of them, and an electric motor kit.”

Below are the other highlights of the Charged-Up event:
- Lithium-Ion Battery Fundamentals and X-ray Analysis of Canadian Light Source’s Spectro-Microscopy Beamline Scientist Jian Wang
- The Evolution of Electric Vehicle Retail Panel, a Q&A segment with Wyant Group COO Michael Wyant, Tesla Owners Club member Tyler Krause, and SaskEV President Malcolm Lucy
- Electric Vehicles in Saskatchewan, a presentation by Tesla Owners Club of Saskatchewan President Tyler Krause
- EVs and Ebikes – Mobility and Micromobility, a discussion by Biktrix CEO/Founder Roshan Thomas
Canada’s ZEV uptake
Canada’s zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) new registrations for the light- and medium-duty segment reached 30,533 units in the first quarter of 2023, Electric Autonomy Canada reports, citing Statistics Canada’s data.
Of that total, all-electric models (BEVs) accounted for 23,774 units. The remaining 6,759 units were plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).
This figure demonstrates an 8.6% share of the country’s automotive market with some growth indicators.
“Among new ZEV registrations in the first quarter of 2023, BEVs increased 20.7 per cent from the previous year, while PHEVs increased 6.9 per cent. BEVs comprised 77.9 per cent of all new ZEVs registered, while PHEVs comprised the other 22.1 per cent. More new ZEVs were registered in all provinces in the first quarter of 2023 compared with one year earlier.”
