Data shows that more number of e-bikes were sold in the United States than Electric Vehicles during the last calendar year.
Research done by 11alive confirms more electric bikes than electric vehicles were sold in the United States in 2021.
Edward Benjamin, Chairman of the Light Electric Vehicle Association, said that about 880,00 units of e-bikes were shipped in the U.S. last year. The association tracks the imports of these units to the United States.
According to their report, there are 608,000 electric vehicles—both electric cars and trucks—sold in the U.S. in 2021, confirming that there were more sales of e-bikes than electric vehicles in the U.S. last year.
Benjamin also said that it was hard to track the sales of e-bikes since most of the sales are made overseas.
“What I hear now (from retailers) is that I can’t get as many as I’d like to have, which says to me the product is selling through,” he said. “So, I’m pretty confident that we sold more than 880,000 electric bikes last year.”
Benjamin believes that there will be more than 1 million e-bikes sales this year.
The average price of an e-bike in the U.S. ranges from $600-$8,000. You can get a decent one at around $1,500.
