Updated Clean Transportation Incentive Program

Starting today, used BEV and PHEV buyers can benefit from a rebate of up to $2,500 under the Clean Transportation Incentive Program.

According to DNREC Secretary Shawn Garvin, the electric vehicle market has grown in recent years. This significant advancement also boosted the used electric vehicle segment in the state.

Therefore, enticing incentives in the form of rebates can aid more Delawareans in affording sustainable and clean vehicles.

Available rebates for new and used EV purchases

The Clean Transportation Incentive Program, which was launched in 2015, is under the wider Climate Action Plan to cut the transportation sector’s C02 emissions.

“Transitioning to electric vehicles, along with improvements to public transit and pedestrian and biking facilities, is a critical strategy in Delaware’s Climate Action Plan for curbing transportation emissions and improving air quality.”

 DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin

Presented below are the available rebates for new and used electric vehicle buyers in Delaware:

RebatePowertrainBase MSRP
$2,500new battery electric vehicles$40,000 or less
$1,500new battery electric vehicles$40,000 – $50,000
$1,000new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles$50,000 or less
$2,500used battery electric vehiclesbelow $40,000
$1,000used plug-in hybrid electric vehiclesbelow $40,000.

How to qualify for the rebate?

In order to qualify for the rebate program, interested buyers must purchase their battery-electric and plug-in hybrid cars from a licensed dealership.

The models must also sell at a fair market price of sub-$40,000, according to Kelly Blue Book. The cars must not also exceed 8 years from the current model year. More importantly, they must be registered in the state of Delaware.

Interested customers of used BEV and PHEV models can visit the DNREC website to check the eligibility requirements and the list of eligible models. The rebate program will run through April 30, 2025. The US federal tax credit of up to $7,500 can boost the savings by up to $10,000 on eligible EVs.
