Tesla electric vehicle teardown experts Sandy Munro and Cory Steuben predict that the all-electric pickup Cybertruck will be significantly lighter than the automaker’s initial regulatory filing of 8,500 to 10,000 lbs (3,855 – 4,536 kg) during the program Munro Live. Given the Cybertruck’s stainless steel body, quad motors, and large battery pack, that weight seems sufficient.
However, the teardown experts at Munro Live suggest that the Tesla pickup would have a weight lower than that.
Weight prediction
Sandy Munro expects the Tesla Cybertrcuk to have a weight of nearly four tons, while Cory Steuben thinks it will be at least 6,000 lbs (2,721 kg) but more like 6,800 lbs (3084 kg).
The experts’ estimates were highly influenced by the weight of Cybertruck’s closest rivals Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EV. For reference, the R1T weighs 6,949 lbs (3,152 kg), while the Hummer EV is at 10,400 lbs (4,700 kg).
They considered that the two competitors both have body-on-frame layouts. On the other hand, the Cybertruck seems more efficiently assembled owing to its gigacasting tech and structural battery pack.
They further noted that Cybertruck’s innovative technology, particularly the gigacastings, and A-pillar, would substantially improve its rigidness. They suggest these factors may have partially caused the EV’s multiple delays.
In addition, Tesla has been the top brand when it comes to EV safety owing to its innovative production strategy and safety assistance features. That said, Tesla will most likely offer the all-new Cybertruck with the same level of safety and reliability.

Recent reports also claim that the Cybertruck will have a driving range of 350 miles (563.3 km), while the higher-end variant will be capable of 500 miles.
That considered, its weight will probably drop further throughout various trims. Notably, a reduced weight will give the Cybertruck an improved range and off-road capacities.
