Tesla recently announced at the Guangzhou auto show that it would reveal the Model S/X Plaid prices on January 6 and start deliveries in the first half of 2023 in China, as reported by CnEVPost.

Model S/X Background

Tesla Model S Plaid debuted in the United States in September 2020. Its deliveries started early June 2021, while Tesla halted the more advanced Plaid + model.

Remarkably, Tesla installed three electric motors in its Model S Plaid cars, enabling 0-60 mph acceleration in 1.99 seconds.

In late November 2021, CEO Elon Musk declared that Tesla plans to launch the Model S Plaid in China by March 2022. Obviously, it did not materialize.

For reference, Tesla China’s website displayed the pricing at that time at RMB 1,059,990 ($152,430), but it was later removed.

On October 2022, the Model S and Model X qualified for China’s NEV purchase tax exemption as announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

As per the report, a Model S Plaid reservation costs RMB 20,000. The purchase would cost RMB 1,033,990 with a white interior.

However, it must be noted that these upcoming expensive models are projected to not substantially increase Tesla’s sales. Chinese customers prefer affordable options, as evidenced by CPCA’s 2022 data. It revealed that just 1% of all Chinese car purchases have derived from 400,000-yuan-priced cars.

Nonetheless, the launch of the Model S and X in China is still great expansion news, especially for customers looking forward to buying them.
