The wide adoption of electric vehicles has been progressing on a global scale owing to their sustainability and cost efficiency.
In that sense, a potential new Tesla factory could significantly accelerate the EV transition even further. Reports suggest that Tesla can produce approximately 500,000 EVs in India once it finally reaches a deal with the government.
As EV-a2z previously reported, Tesla is also looking to establish an “export base” in India to supply foreign markets in the Indo-Pacific region.
“Tesla has come to us with an ambitious plan, and we are confident that the movement will be possible this time around, especially as it involves both local manufacturing and exports.”

EV sales topped the 20 million sales mark
It is worth noting that EV sales surpassed 20 million units in 2022, with EVs accounting for 14% of new car sales, as per charging solution firm Virta’s research.
Furthermore, the research revealed that India is already the leading electric three-wheeler market worldwide in 2022, with sales of 425,000 units.
Therefore, India also has the potential to dominate the global electric four-wheeler market once it finally forms a partnership with the world’s most valuable automaker.
“We are just trying to figure out the right timing. … I am confident that Tesla will be in India and will do so as humanly possible.”
