Chinese battery giant CATL proudly announced over the weekend the successful development of its innovative skateboard chassis.
What’s more interesting about the new CATL Integrated Intelligent Chassis (CIIC) is its integrated structural battery pack that can enable a driving range of up to 621 miles (1,000 km).

The CIIC is a new electric vehicle platform that integrates the battery pack, electric motors, and other key components, CarNewsChina reported.
CATL primarily expects the CIIC to aid its efforts to achieve the following targets:
- Reduce the number of components
- Streamline production
- Rationalize costs
In addition, the strategic integration of the will supposedly lower weight and consumption while optimizing the electric vehicle’s interior space.
CATL also boasts that the new chassis combines a low-voltage and a high-voltage system, steering and braking systems, and chassis domain controllers through its CTC (cell-to-chassis) technology.
Hozon Auto to initially utilize CIIC next year
InsideEVs suggests that Neta brand owner Hozon Auto will be the first to use the CIIC in one of its models.
The Jubilee model will reportedly hit the Chinese electric vehicle market in Q3 2023.
According to AutoEvolution, CATL tested the new technology on a B-segment compact sedan that is “most likely a Neta-branded model.”
Model testing
The mysterious EV has apparently completed the necessary winter testing in Heihe and summer testing in Turpan, as announced by CATL Chief Scientist Wu Kai on November 30.
Impressively, the CIIC-equipped model recorded a driving range of 621 miles (1,000 km) with a speculated 105-kWh battery pack.
It also had an energy consumption of 10.5 kWh/62 miles. At temperatures under 7 degrees Celsius (19.4 degrees Fahrenheit), the battery range declined by 30%.
The battery pack also gained an extra 186 miles (300 km) in just five minutes using a DC fast charger.
Interestingly, the local report suggests that CATL aims to develop its own electric vehicle model after the first CIIC-equipped models’ launch. It is also worth noting that CATL inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Vietnamese automaker VinFast to “expand collaboration in areas including CIIC.”
