A memorandum of understanding for a strategic partnership has been inked by pioneering Japanese automaker Daihatsu Motor and Chinese power battery juggernaut CATL, as per CnEVPost.
The partnership’s commitment
CATL announced today that the partnership would be committed to accelerating Japan‘s electrification through battery tech and supply. As per the press release, CATL will provide a reliable supply of power cells for Daihatsu’s electric vehicle models.
The Chinese juggernaut will also enhance the battery technology in Daihatsu vehicles through cell-to-pack (CTP) and battery management systems (BMS).
According to the press release, Daihatsu can boost its EV capacity and performance owing to CATL’s cutting-edge batteries. Having said that, the partnership will offer affordable EV products to Japan and other developing countries.
Furthermore, it is also a part of CATL’s broader effort to expand its global presence. The Chinese battery company claims it would enable them to penetrate local markets like Southeast Asia and Japan.
