Electric boat developer Candela officially commenced the production of its C-8 flying e-boat equipped with Polestar’s battery pack, Electronic Specifier reported.
This significant development hints at the groundbreaking hydrofoil e-boat’s imminent start of customer deliveries.
Candela and Polestar’s partnership
Candela and Swedish automaker Polestar initially disclosed their strategic partnership in January 2023.
The partnership primarily aimed at equipping the Candela C-8 with Polestar’s 69 kWh battery and DC fast charging technology, which the popular all-electric Polestar 2 also employs.
Electrek indicated that Polestar’s DC fast charging capability enabled the Swedish e-boat developer to break the world’s record for the longest 24-hour electric boat distance.
About the Candela C-8
Integrating the Polestar battery in the Candela C-8 enables a maximum electric range of 57 nautical miles at 22 knots (25 mph).
Its battery technology also enabled the Candela C-8 to become the fastest-charging electric boat on the market, with a charging time of just 35 minutes through a DC fast charger.
In addition, the C-8 flying e-boat also offers a maximum cruising speed of 27 knots (31 mph).
“Marine DC charging coupled with our hydrofoil technology’s long electric range will introduce new ways to explore on coastlines and archipelagos. Whereas cruising nautical miles in a day in a petrol-powered boat is challenging due to noise and slamming, it’s not only doable but very enjoyable in a C-8.”
