The new “million yuan” model emerges as another major threat to the dominance of Tesla and Porsche in the luxury electric vehicles segment.

Yangwang U7 hits showroom ahead of launch

According to CarNewsChina, Yangwang U7 has started to hit dealerships ahead of its set market launch on its home turf later this year.

The new Yangwang U7 will cost approximately $137,500 in the Chinese market, marking the first luxury sedan of the brand.

It is expected to compete directly with popular models in the luxury electric vehicles segment, including the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, among others.

Yangwang U7 tech details

The Yangwang U7 rides on the same e4 architecture as the U9 supercar. It offers the new DiSus-Z suspension system, which replaces conventional hydraulic shock absorbers with electric motors to improve riding experience and energy recovery.

This system also enables the U7 to support suspension adjustments as fast as ten milliseconds and achieve a drag coefficient of 0.195 Cd. It yields more than 1,300 horsepower and enables a 497-mile driving range.

BYD’s new $140K Yangwang U7 luxury sedan is set to launch later this year in China.

The U7 boasts over 1,300 hp, a 497-mile range, and advanced features. BYD’s luxury lineup already includes the $150K U8 SUV and the U9 supercar.

The model is 5,265 mm long, 1,998 mm wide, and 1,517 mm tall. These considered, it is somehow taller and longer than the Porsche Taycan (4,963 mm long, 1,966 mm wide, and 1,381 mm tall) and Tesla Model S (4,980 mm long, 1,964 mm wide, and 1,440 mm tall).

Just how great is YangWang U7's maneuverability?
Well, it has a 4.85m turn radius, smaller than even BYD Seagull's 4.95m
For a 5265mm long flagship sedan, unbelievable to see it having tighter turn than a mini-EV

Launch date

BYD plans to formally launch the Yangwang U7 in the Chinese market later this year.

The Yangwang U7’s imminent arrival aligns with its efforts to expand into various new segments like pickups, supercars, and mid-size electric SUVs.

BYD aims to beat Tesla in the all-electric vehicle market again after successfully topping the global rankings in Q4 2023. Counterpoint research projects BYD will do so by the end of 2024. However, it would be extremely challenging for BYD, considering the new import tariff on China-made EVs in certain markets like the EU.
