Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD officially debuted its new Yangwang U7 flagship sedan in its home market on January 10, as posted by the sub-brand on Weibo. Impressively, the model boasts more than 1,000 horsepower, with Yangwang referring to it as a “million-level new energy flagship sedan.”
Exterior design
The new Yangwang U7 takes inspiration from the U9 but with a more “family style” layout. Its front end features the iconic headlights, while the front bumper has a big air intake with ultrasonic radar.
In addition, it has carbon fiber-made side skirts and splitters. It also sports a sloped bonnet line and RoboSense’s LiDAR sensor.
Its rear end features a single taillight and a sporty diffuser. It also rides on five-spoke R21 rims with Continental tires. Moreover, it offers retractable door handles.
What’s currently known about its power and performance?
The Yangwang U7 is expected to enable a maximum output of more than 1,000 (750 kW) horsepower owing to its e⁴ platform integration.
Last September, C-STAA disclosed that the model will boast a 0.195 Cd drag coefficient. This impressive figure enables the Yangwang U7 to advance as the “aerodynamic passenger car” along with the Xiaomi SU7.
Unfortunately, the brand did not reveal more details about the model’s powertrain. Considering that the company refers to it as an “NEV sedaN,” it may emerge as an EREV model like the U8.
What’s clear about its technical specification is the inclusion of four electric motors, as noted by Car News China.
About Yangwang
BYD officially introduced its new luxury sub-brand, Yangwang, a year ago. It also unveiled its new e4 Platform, announcing that its upcoming new energy vehicles will ride on it.
In September, it debuted its inaugural U8 off-road NEV SUV with a base price of more than $150,000 (1,098,000 RMB). It boasts 1,200 horsepower, enabling the model to drive on any terrain.
After that, it introduced the Yangwang U9 all-electric supercar with a $140,000 (1 million RMB) starting price.
Finally, Yangwang has unveiled the latest addition to its portfolio. However, Yangwang U7’s pricing may also set you back at approximately 1 million yuan (140K USD). Notably, it marks the sub-brand’s third model in the Chinese market after the U8 EREV off-roader and the U9 electric sports car.
This new luxury sub-brand and its competitive offering will undoubtedly aid BYD’s efforts to dominate the global electric vehicle market. It is crucial for BYD to maintain its upward trend, considering its recent feat of beating the American electric vehicle pioneer Tesla in the final months of 2023.
The new Yangwang U7 will open sales in the Chinese market in the second half of 2024. We can expect to learn more about the model on or before its market launch.
