Chinese electric automaker BYD has just announced plans to launch the new Haibao 07 (Seal O7) electric vehicle in early August 2024, GIZMOCHINA reports, citing BYD Ocean Network Sales Division General Manager Zhang Zhuo’s Weibo post on July 14, 2024.
Design
The upcoming Haibao 07 EV, an upgraded version of the current Haibao model, is expected to hit the market in early August 2024.
The new model will apparently maintain the overall design of its predecessor. It will feature the same closed front, slender headlights, and distinct water ripple lighting elements.
While BYD has yet to disclose the official vehicle dimensions, it will highly likely have measurements similar to the current model (4800mm long, 1875mm wide, and 1460mm tall, with a 2920mm wheelbase).
Performance
The new Haibao 07 EV will ride on BYD’s e platform 3.0 Evo. The word “Evo” most likely stands for “evolution,” representing a comprehensive upgrade of the existing platform to pack more performance from it before the new e-platform 4.0.
Apart from improved smart driving capabilities through a new LiDAR system, the Haibao 07 will also utilize an 800-volt high-voltage system to deliver stronger motor performance and charging efficiency.
As for the powertrain, the new Haibao 07 EV will offer rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. The RWD version offers three permanent magnet synchronous motors of 150 kW, 170 kW, and 230 kW, with peak torques of 310 Nm, 330 Nm, and 360 Nm, respectively.
Meanwhile, the FWD has a 230 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle and a 160 kW AC asynchronous motor on the front axle.
The Haibao 07 EV will still offer two types of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade batteries: 61.4 kWh and 82.5 kWh. For reference, the current Haibao Glory Edition’s CLTC-rated driving ranges are 550 km, 700 km, and 650 km.
Pricing
According to the report, the new model will cost between 179,800 yuan (over $24,765) to 249,800 yuan (over $34,400).
Despite Haibao’s early success in the electric vehicle market, its sales have dropped in recent months. In June 2024, it only sold a total of 813 units.
The new Haibao 07 EV is expected to face intense competition from the likes of Tesla Model 3, XPeng P7, and Zeekr 007.
