Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has finally released the official photos of its upcoming Yuan Up following a shadowy teaser late last month.
In a significant development, BYD publicized several official images of the new electric SUV on its Weibo account on Thursday.
Exterior
BYD recently posted Yuan Up’s photos to the Chinese social media platform with the following caption (translated to English):
“Both cute and cool, the attention-grabbing A0 Yuan friend Up is full of youth and vitality!”
BYD
As you can see in the photos attached to the X post above, it has the conventional SUV design features of the A0 class. For context, “A0” refers to a 2.2- 2.5 meter wheelbase vehicle.
BYD has yet to officially disclose the dimensions of the new electric SUV, but a recent regulatory filing in China revealed its 4,310 mm length, 1,830 mm width, and 1,675 mm height.
BYD Yuan Up’s front fascia features the Dolphin’s front-end grey panel, and flush door handles to improve its styling. Its charge port is available on the ride side of the vehicle. It also has a glass roof similar to that of its Dolphin sibling.
At the rear end, the Yuan Up offers an end-to-end light bar, a rear-diffuser-like section, and a rear window wiper.
Interior
The photos attached to the X post below revealed that the BYD Yuan UP features a D-shaped four-spoke steering wheel with the iconic Yuan (元) logo. Behind the steering wheel, the Yuan Up offers an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster.
It also boasts a heads-up display and a 12.8-inch rotating center screen. In addition, it offers perforated leatherette seats with power adjustments. The second row has an armrest, while the third offers a headrest.
Moreover, it has convenience-related features like a wireless charging pad, two cup holders, and a crystal gear selector.
Specifications and pricing
BYD has also not yet disclosed the technical specifications of the Yuan Up. However, the MIIT filing indicated that the new electric SUV will feature a single electric motor with three versions capable of enabling a driving range of 401 km (249 miles).
It can apparently generate a maximum power of 130 kW supported by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which is highly likely the brand’s own Blade Battery. For context, this battery tech offers two sizes, including the 44.9 kWh and the larger 60.48 kWh pack. These battery packs enable a WLTP-rated range of 340 km and 427 km, respectively.
BYD is expected to present the Yuan Up at the upcoming Beijing International Automotive Exhibition in April. The local news platform Car News China also suggests that the Yuan Up’s launch will occur in March. Therefore, we can expect the Chinese automaker to release more details about the new electric SUV in just a few months. Recent local reports also cited dealers’ estimates that the three versions of the BYD e-SUV will cost RMB 120,000 ($16,900), RMB 125,000 ($17,600), and RMB 130,000 ($18,300), respectively.
