Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD recorded another strong month of year-on-year growth in January 2024, with sales surging 34% to more than 200,000 passenger plugin car sales compared to the same period last year.
January 2024 sales results
According to BYD’s post on social media platform X, its total new energy vehicle sales reached 201,493 units in January 2024 alone.
Of that total, passenger plugin cars accounted for 201,019 passenger plugin cars across. Commercial plugin cars contributed to the remaining 473 units. It must be noted that these figures include the sales of BYD’s sub-brands.

These remarkable sales figures advanced BYD’s position as the leading Chinese automaker and car brand. Globally, it became the top plugin hybrid electric automaker last year.

The Song lineup (BEV + PHEV) led the brand’s plugin vehicle sales in January 2024 with 59,514 units. The all-electric Seagull followed with 36,477 sales, while the Qin family (BEV + PHEV) landed third spot with 21,767 units. The Dolphin (18,905) and Yuan (18,071) completed the top five.
