Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has just achieved another milestone with the successful production of the 200,000th Seagull city car on November 29, CnEVPost reports, citing the official announcement on local platform Weibo.

The BYD Seagull stirred the world’s largest auto market as one of the cheapest all-electric vehicle models. According to Teslarati, the Chinese automaker formally introduced the Seagull EV at the recent Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023.
It currently has three available trims, with a base price of just RMB 73,800 ($10,360) in China. The mid-tier Seagull starts at RMB 78,800, while the top-end trim costs RMB 89,800 before options.
Now, the company is celebrating the 200,000 production milestone of the Seagull EV.
Sales performance through October 2023
The BYD Seagull EV continues to demonstrate strong performance since sales opened on April 26 this year. According to CarNewsChina.com, BYD Seagull’s wholesale sales totaled 43,350 units in October alone.
The all-electric compact city car reported consistent growth in its home market, which is unsurprising due to its affordability and cutting-edge technologies. For reference, here are the Seagull EV’s sales from April through October:

Technical details
The Driven noted that the BYD Seagull currently has two Blade Battery configurations, including the 30.08 kWh and the larger 38.88 kWh. These two batteries enable a CLTC-estimated driving range of 305 km and 405 km, respectively.
It rides on the e-Platform 3.0 with a 3,780 mm length, 1,715 mm width, 1,540 mm height, and 2,500 mm wheelbase.
It has a permanent magnet synchronous motor that generates a maximum power of 55 kW and 135 Nm peak torque. It can also accelerate from 0-50 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Furthermore, it supports fast charging of 30%-80% in just 30 minutes.
The Seagull’s low-cost pricing enables BYD to expand its customer base. Its rapid growth strongly demonstrates BYD’s dedication to offering customers with more affordable alternatives to join the shift to e-mobility.
