What’s currently known about the new electric pickup?

CarsNewsChina.com reports that the famous Wolfgang Egger is the designer of the new electric pickup.

Interestingly, the model will use the BYD badge instead of the company’s new outdoor brands like YangWang and Fang Cheng Bao.

The four-door EV’s front grille will have a huge BYD logo. It will also have rugged fenders and bumpers, a small sunroof, and a pair of roof rails.

In hindsight, spy photos of the electric pickup also leaked during the final testing phase in April. However, it is covered in heavy camouflage with a similar build to the patent photos.

Electrek also indicated some reports that the model will have a length of 209 inches, smaller than the Tacoma at 225 inches.

BYD has yet to announce the official specifications of the electric pickup. Local media reports in China also suggest that the model will be positioned in the Ocean Series. However, the local reports indicated that the model will initially have a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The all-electric version will arrive later.

BYD to beat Tesla in the EV industry

BYD is on track to overthrow the electric vehicle pioneer Tesla with its growing sales. For context, Tesla’s sales reached 435,059 EVs in Q2 2023.

On the other hand, the Chinese NEV giant sold 431,603 in the second quarter of the year. Therefore, it is only short of a few thousand to match the Musk-led company’s sales.

BYD has also dominated various foreign markets, including Thailand, Brazil, Columbia, and Israel. It has also debuted new models in Japan, Mexico, India, Australia, Hungary, etc., as it seeks to beat Tesla.

It has also recently achieved a 500,000 production milestone for the new Dolphin electric hatchback.

The new BYD electric pickup is expected to compete with popular models like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Geely Radar RD6, and the Dongfeng Rich 6 EV. It will surely disrupt the industry, considering the brand’s reputation for offering affordable and competitive models.
