BYD (Build Your Dreams) announced a partnership with Auto Nejma SA, a subsidiary of the Hakam Family Group and a Moroccan dealership group, to provide new energy passenger vehicles to local consumers, as per CnEVPost.
The two parties hosted an online signing ceremony at BYD’s global headquarters in Shenzhen and Auto Nejma’s headquarters in Casablanca.
“As early as 2017, under the witness of His Majesty the King Mohammed VI of Morocco, BYD and the Moroccan government signed a memorandum of understanding on the BYD-Morocco electric transport system, covering rail transit, electric vehicles, electric buses and trucks, battery assembly, and other businesses.” Huang Zhixue, General Manager of BYD Middle East and Africa Auto Sales Division, said.
“And we are happy to join hands with Hakam Family Group and Auto Nejma to launch new energy vehicles in Morocco, embrace electrification and intelligent revolution, jointly cool the earth by 1°C.”
Auto Nejma
Auto Nejma has been in the automotive industry for more than 50 years with a strong reputation and expertise in Morocco, according to a press release by BYD.
“We are also fully committed to implementing the necessary investments over the next few months to promote the BYD brand in the main cities of the kingdom allowing Moroccans to access the best of electric mobility technology,” said Auto Nejma’s general manager Adil BENNANI.
“This partnership marks a milestone in the expansion plan of Auto Nejma and the Hakam Family Group in sustainable mobility.”
It is worth noting that this isn’t BYD’s first entrance into Morocco.
BYD & the Moroccan government
In 2017, BYD and the Moroccan government signed a memorandum of understanding on electric bus systems, covering battery assembly, electric buses and trucks, electric passenger cars, and rail transportation.
BYD’s new energy vehicle’s footprint
Currently, BYD’s new energy vehicles (NEVs) cover six continents, over 70 countries and regions and more than 400 cities worldwide, according to the company.
In the first half of 2022, BYD’s NEV sales exceeded 640,000 units with 300% year-on-year.
Notably, this is the most recent cooperation BYD reached in overseas markets.
In the past months, BYD entered into partnerships with local dealers in some countries, including Brazil and Mauritius. The company brought its new energy passenger vehicles to regions including Mongolia, Nepal, and Europe.
