What’s currently known about the new i5?
Interior
As you can see in the teaser video above, the interior of the new i5 boasts a similar dashboard to the 7 series. Its huge center touchscreen runs on Operating System 8.5, first used by the i7 M70 last month.
The teaser video additionally displayed the Bowers & Wilkins audio system and touch-sensitive AC controls inside the infotainment display.
Exterior
Interestingly, the all-electric car will feature kidney-type grilles and illuminated LED lights on the borders that generate lighting sounds. It will also come with thin LED headlights with two daytime running lights inside. The report also stated that it would feature i badges on the grilles.
Although BMW withheld several specifics, it is clear that the next i5 will have cutting-edge, futuristic features that will set it apart from competitors.
Powertrain
BMW will apparently offer two motor configurations worldwide for the i5 model: single-motor and dual-motor, News18 reports.
Unfortunately, BMW has not yet provided any official information about this.
Nonetheless, reports suggest the entry-level model will feature a rear axle e-motor with a max power of 330 bhp. Meanwhile, the top-tier model xDrive is expected to have a 581 bhp max power.
The i5 will utilize the brand’s latest fifth-generation eDrive technology in addition to a novel torque management system that improves dynamics, traction, and driving stability.
