BMW iX1 production officially began in Regensburg, Germany, ahead of first deliveries in the upcoming weeks. The all-electric crossover was unveiled in May and will be sold in China and Europe. Only one variant is available for now, which is the xDrive 30.

According to BMW, it is powered by a 66.5 kWh battery pack. The model is capable of up to 272 miles per charge (WLTP).

Compared to an ICE X1, it is rather fast (0-62 mph takes just 5.7 seconds). Meanwhile, the total output is around 313 hp, as per InsideEVs.

In terms of charging, the BMW model can have up to 127 kW speeds.

BMW iX1 price

The iX1 begins at €55,000 ($56,990) in Germany. Currently, BMW doesn’t have any plans to offer it in North America. This is a surprise decision since Canada and the US have unprecedented electric crossovers’ demand.

iX1 joins BMW’s fully-electric lineup

The iX1 joins the i7 and i4 sedans and iX and iX3 SUVs in BMW’s all-electric lineup. The iX2, another electric crossover, is in the works and is anticipated to debut in 2024.

Whether or not BMW plans to premiere the iX2 in the US remains to be discovered.

Regensburg manufacturing

Notably, Regensburg manufactures all drive technologies on a single line (combustion-engine, plug-in hybrid, and fully-electric models). Furthermore, artificial intelligence is also employed at Regensburg, specifically, AI-supported image recognition that assists with quality inspections.

More than €1.6 billion investment in 2022

By the end of this year, BMW Group will have invested more than €1.6 billion in electric component production at Dingolfing, Leipzig, and Regensburg.

Production has started in our Regensburg plant for our fully-electric iX1 ⚡️.

“We are delivering the goods. By 2024, at least one in three BMWs coming out of our Bavarian plants will be an electric car,” said Board Member for Production Milan Nedeljković. Carsten Regent, Head of the BMW Group Plant Regensburg.

“The electrification and transformation of the plant gives me optimism for the future. Our aim now – also with the new BMW iX1 – is to continue to impress customers all over the world with cars made in Regensburg.”
