BMW Group’s global BEV sales surged 79.6% in Q3 2023

German automaker BMW Group’s battery-electric vehicle sales from its BMW and Mini brands grew 79.6% year-on-year to 93,931 units in Q3 2023, according to the press release. It accounted for 15.1% of the company’s overall volume.

Remarkably, the BMW brand alone successfully increased its BEV sales by twofold (+100.3%) to 83,211 units in the same period. Meanwhile, the Mini brand sold 10,720 fully-electric Cooper SE models in Q3 2023.

Our fully-electric products, in particular, are benefiting from high demand worldwide – as seen in our BEV sales, which significantly outperformed the total BEV market in the first nine months. Overall, we are on track to meet our growth targets for 2023.”

Plug-in vehicle sales

Q3 2023 (Jul-Sep)

BMW Group’s BEV and PHEV sales reached a total of 139,943 from BMW and MINI brands, up 42%. 

Of that total, BEV models accounted for 93,931 units. BEV sales recorded an 80% sales growth owing to the BMW i4’s popularity. The BMW iX1* and X1 also enjoyed high customer demand in Q3 2023, along with the revamped BMW X7, BMW X5, and BMW X6 models.

The German legacy automaker also expects the new BMW 5 Series, particularly the BMW i5 EV, to further boost its sales.

This year to date, the Group recorded a 36% YoY sales increase to 385,411 units.

BEVs sold 246,867 units (up 93%), while PHEVs only had sales of 138,544 units (down 11%).

BMW Group continues to develop and launch various projects to accelerate its electric vehicle transition. It recently launched the all-electric BMW i7 M70, dubbed “America’s most powerful EV in history.” It also partnered with rivals Ford and Honda to develop a new V2G company as they seek to decarbonize the grid.
