Tesla CEO Elon Musk is reportedly planning to build an artificial intelligence (AI) start-up to rival OpenAI, Financial Times reports citing people familiar with the matter.
Apparently, the move is a part of the billionaire’s strategy to engage in the race being waged in Silicon Valley to develop generative AI systems.
It is worth noting that Musk is a co-founder of OpenAI. However, he left the company in 2018 due to a “conflict of interest” with Tesla’s AI initiatives.

Elon Musk is building an artificial intelligence researcher and engineering team, per the unnamed sources.
Furthermore, they asserted that Musk is currently dealing with numerous SpaceX and Tesla investors for this new AI business.
“A bunch of people are investing in it … it’s real and they are excited about it.”

Interestingly, the billionaire registered “X.AI” on March 9, per Nevada business records. Musk was the only listed director, with Jared Birchall as the secretary.
Apart from that, the people familiar with the matter assert that Musk has acquired thousands of Nvidia’s high-powered GPU processors.
For context, he needs high-end chips called GPUs to construct a huge language model comparable to the technology that underpins ChatGPT.
Unfortunately, how the new AI company will be structured is currently unclear. Nonetheless, it seems to be a stand-alone business unconnected to Musk’s other companies.
Additionally, Musk just transferred Twitter under his “X” holding firm, which some believe may eventually expand to other endeavors.
