To accelerate the adoption of EVs in Mumbai, BEST plans to install EV charging stations at its bus stops.
India-based transport and electricity provider, the BrihanMumbai Electric Supply and Transport, commonly known as BEST, is boosting the use of electric vehicles in Mumbai, India.
BEST plans to install charging stations at its bus stops and bus stands. According to a report by Hindustan Times, BEST has identified 55 of its locations across Mumbai where they can set up the charging stations. According to BEST, it will be available to private vehicles as well.
“There will be selected operators who will install electric vehicle charging stations primarily at the BEST bus stops, stands, and depots. All private two-wheelers and four-wheelers will be able to charge their vehicles in the space,” said Lokesh Chandra, General Manager of BEST.
A senior BEST official stated: “We have identified places where there are spaces on bus stops and stands including in Vikhroli, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Andheri and Mulund. Bus depots also have additional space to accommodate charging stations,”
BEST currently owns 386 electric buses, and its contractor has put charging stations in its four bus terminals.
Last week, BEST placed orders for electric buses from Olectra Greentech. The e-buses will be delivered in one year with 2,100 buses. Accordingly, Olectra is already operating 40 Electric buses for BEST in Mumbai.
