BAIC and Huawei partner to produce electric vehicles under the BAIC brand. Huawei takes on infotainment and driver assistance technology, and it looks like this partnership will make another automotive brand for the market, as per EV Magz.
According to IT Home, the two companies will again cooperate with Huawei to take on distribution responsibilities. The new brand will exclusively be available through the Huawei showrooms network.
Huawei DriveONE platform
BAIC will supply manufacturing, whereas Huawei will be in charge of technology through the Huawei DriveONE platform.
The platform used is called Jihu. It is the same platform used on the Jihu and Wenje vehicles, but it seems that Jihu will be rebranded.
HarmonyOS
In addition, the Huawei Inside platform will be used as well. Some brands are rapidly embracing the platform in their vehicles. HarmonyOS has a big role and supports Huawei Inside, enabling connections between homes, phones, and smart cars.
The public is waiting for vehicles with the latest technology and with, autonomous driving capabilities and advanced ADAS.
Huawei will not manufacture the vehicle
Notably, Huawei will not follow in Foxconn and Xiaomi’s footsteps, producing their own EVs. The company has said it will never manufacture the vehicle.
However, that has not prevented it from seeing the increasing demand for smart electric cars. Clearly, the company is leveraging its existing distribution network, and with its HarmonyOS, it makes sense to sell phones and cars under the same roof.
Changan Huawei Avatr 11
Furthermore, this is also not the first time this has been done – the Avatr 11 is already planned for sale in some locations.
