Agreements

Bahrain partnered with Deloitte & Touche to accelerate the kingdom’s EV uptake by developing an effective electrification strategy, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, H E Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan stated.

Deloitte & Touche is now committed to designing and developing a “multi-pronged” strategy to sustainably boost the kingdom’s adoption of clean vehicles.

Bahrain strives to achieve its net zero and carbon emissions targets

According to the report, the Kingdom of Bahrain aims to improve its solar energy deployment as the primary power source to support the electrification initiatives.

In effect, the kingdom will reap the following benefits:

  • lower fossil fuel reliance and usage
  • less pollution
  • cheaper cost of ownership

Minister Humaidan claims the new strategy aligns with Bahrain’s net zero and carbon emissions targets. He further noted that it would also aid the kingdom’s greenhouse effect and climate change combat.

For context, Bahrain aims to reduce its carbon emissions by 30% through its decarbonization and energy efficiency initiatives. It further targets achieving Net Zero by 2060.

The Kingdom of Bahrain announces its intention to bring carbon emissions to net zero by 2060.

“This agreement serves to strengthen Bahrain’s efforts in this direction.”

Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, H E Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan

To achieve its targets, Bahrain will develop the necessary charging infrastructures, policies, and regulations, as stated by Minister Humaidan

It is worth noting that Bahrain sees the energy sector as a significant contributor to the thorough development initiatives which His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa ushered.

The report further noted that the Bahrain-Deloitte & Touche partnership follows Gauss Auto Bahrain’s deal announcement to establish the kingdom’s first EV plant for two- and three-wheel electric tricycles and passenger vehicles.
