Many people in Australia who have placed an order for a Tesla Model S have been waiting for delivery for several years at this point, and they are becoming aggravated by the lack of clarity regarding the delivery timing of their vehicles.

According to John Myers, he has been waiting for more than two years for his Model S Long Range delivery.

I ordered on the December 10th, 2020, and then the refresh was announced in March 2021, and a Tesla rep rang to ask my intentions on continuing my order as the price increased on the web 13K, I decided to not cancel my order even though it was really stretching the budget,

A year later, I received an email from Tesla with some good news that my original contract price would be honoured but no word on possible delivery time. Another 15 months have passed with no further correspondence and no idea of possible delivery date. I have found Tesla’s lack of information very frustrating

Frustrated Australian Tesla customers

Geoff McEvoy, an additional Australian customer, has been waiting nearly 18 months since he placed his order for a Model S on October 2nd, 2021.

Since the time of that order, I have heard nothing at all from Tesla concerning the progress of the order,

I understand that it is a big company with extensive reach, but even an email after waiting 12 months would be some small sign of, Dear Geoff, we haven’t forgotten you

Geoff McEvoy stated on his waiting time for his Tesla vehicle

Geoff has established a Facebook page that is referred to as “Tesla Model S Australia.” The page currently has more than one hundred participants, some of whom are also awaiting the delivery of their vehicles.

We know European orders have commenced late last year and that China deliveries will commence in the first half of this year. But no word about RH (right-hand) drive countries,

I am a current Model 3 owner and a shareholder in the company. Both of which are demonstrations of my support for Tesla. It is with some trepidation that I suggest that this is not a two way street,

I don’t need a big hug or a there, there it will be fine in the morning, just some communication regarding my $180,000.00 17 month old order

Geoff McEvoy stated on his waiting time for his Tesla vehicle

Geoff has been so eager for documentation that he has been conducting his investigation by watching a YouTube channel performing a Fremont factory flyover every Tuesday.

Geoff claims that he pauses the drone footage whenever it hovers over the Model S inventory to see if anyone exits the vehicle from the right-hand side, indicating that RH production has started.

North American customers are prioritized

In 2022, Tesla’s Fremont factory in California produced just over 70,000 Model S and X automobiles. Many customers in the United States wait only a few weeks or months to get their orders, although North America is by far the largest market for the S and X.

The United States of America, Europe, and China are all left-hand drive, and in November of this year, a new Model S Paid was sighted in Europe.

The Driven reports that it is believed that most customers in Europe have now been provided with their orders, and it has been reported that deliveries have begun in China, with almost a thousand Model S and X automobiles being spotted at a port in Shanghai during the previous week.

Pete Thorne, who is the administrator of the Tesla Owners Club of Australia (TOCA), is also anticipating the arrival of a Model S. Regarding the delivery delay, he expressed his own thoughts and not those of TOCA.

I think they’ll only start delivering once there’s enough delivery volume to justify a right-hand drive production run, They said in true Tesla style we could get an email out of the blue with a couple hundred VINS (vehicle identification numbers) tomorrow, but nobody really knows

Pete Thorne, Administrator of TOCA stated on delivery delays

Only significant markets worldwide, including Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Hong Kong, use the right-hand drive. The majority of key markets around the world use the left-hand drive.

Thorne stated that the new design of the Model S and X isn’t as symmetrical as the models produced before the refresh, indicating that additional retooling will be required to switch production to RH drive.

However, it could take place at any time. Thorne stated that he had discussed the delays with Tesla workers in Australia.

Tesla may fulfill all orders for left-hand drive vehicles in Europe and China before shifting production to right-hand drive vehicles.

Tesla is finally accepting Model 3 orders from buyers in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Ireland and Macau. It's been a long wait for some of those locations: In Australia, for instance, reservations opened as far back as… https://t.co/a4wRYIkonv via @GetNewsUpdates pic.twitter.com/WTPLZ2vjsD

Long waiting list is beneficial to Australian customers

Moreover, there are some upsides to having to wait for a more extended period of time. Customers in Australia will get their hands on some of the new features recently added to the Model S and the Model X.

These features include the new Hardware 4 onboard computer, the new cameras, and the high-definition radar.

Geoff and John are two examples of loyal Tesla customers who contribute to what makes the Tesla community in Australia so robust.

There are a lot of Tesla fans down under, and many of them believe in the company’s mission and want to see it succeed in Australia, even though electric vehicle adoption in Australia is one of the slowest in the OECD.
