Aptera has unveiled its three-wheeled electric vehicle’s Launch Edition.
According to the company, the Launch is the first in a series of over 40,000 pre-orders.
700-watt solar technology
The Launch One edition features internally developed 700-watt solar technology, and the vehicle’s embedded PV cells can generate up to 40 miles daily. It assumes that the car will never be able to be charged via the grid, which is the Holy Grail of the transportation electrification sector.
Although it has a driving range of 1,000 miles, the company intends to release a model that can go that far on a single charge.
When plugged into a 120V outlet, the battery, on the other hand, can add more than 13 miles per hour. When plugged in overnight, owners can travel up to 150 miles. Aptera announced last year that it would adopt Tesla’s North American charging standard.
Aptera’s low energy consumption
Aptera attributes the long-range to energy efficiency. The car’s shape, weight, and materials contribute to improved performance and lower energy consumption.
The EV will be constructed in collaboration with the CPC Group. While production will begin in Carlsbad, California, Aptera plans to have eight global assembly plants by 2028. It is aiming for a $25,000 starting price.
The fourth and final phase of development includes crash testing and validation. Aptera intends to begin producing this year and rapidly scale up to 10,000 units per year, followed by 20,000.
Our Launch Edition is our chance to show the world something that’s never existed before. Our identity at Aptera is about transformation, reinvention, and surprises. The Launch Edition is our chance to lead a movement that’s for everyone. We are solar mobility, and we are the future
