Chinese tech giant Alibaba is currently selling a quirky electric half-car/half-truck on its platform for only $1,300, offering an enjoyable and affordable EV experience among industry enthusiasts.

Unique design

This unique-looking electric vehicle goes with the brand name “MEIYA,” as per the Alibaba listing. 

It is basically an all-electric mini car with a pickup truck bed at the back, expanding the seating space for more people and cargo room as well. For context, it only has four seats inside. Therefore, families with more than four members can benefit from the truck bed when going on vacations and trips.

It offers a luggage rack on the roof and a decorative strip at the front. It also comes standard with basic features like wipers, headlights, and rearview mirror, among others.

It also comes directly from the factory, featuring a panda paint design and customized exterior color. As for the dimensions, it is 165 cm tall, 135 cm wide, and 295 cm long. It has a wheelbase of 1500-2000mm.

Technical specs

Impressively, MEIYA’s quirky EV features a 30-50kWh lithium battery pack that enables an NEDC-rated range of up to 101~200 km. Its 60V battery and a top speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) make it ideal for short commutes and city driving. 

It claims to generate a maximum motor power of ≤50kW, ≤100Nm of torque, and ≤100Ps horsepower.

As mentioned, this unique Chinese mini car sells at a very affordable price of $1,300. This figure makes the EV an enticing alternative to higher-cost models currently available in the market.

However, customers also have important things to consider, such as shipping and import fees, that may significantly increase the final price.

It is also worth noting that this particular model is currently not street-legal on US roads. Nonetheless, its unique design, family-friendly attributes, and cheap price will undoubtedly attract EV enthusiasts across the world, even from afar.
