Therefore, it is unsurprising that many local and even foreign automakers attempt to dominate the country’s electric vehicle industry. In fact, five major players are on track to introduce five electric SUVs in the Indian market as early as this year.

Tata Curvv EV

Expected Price: Between Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom/approx).

Expected Launch Date: Mid or second half of 2024.

Tata Motors, the leading electric automaker in India, is planning to launch its new Curvv EV by the middle of this year. It is part of the local automaker’s strategy to bring a new body style into the mass market.

The coupe-style electric SUV will be the second model to ride on the brand’s new acti.ev platform for its second-gen electric vehicle lineup. Like the Punch EV, the Curvv EV will come with innovative technologies like V2L, V2V, OTA update capability, Alexa integration, advanced connected car features, frunk, etc. It is also expected to enable a driving range of 400 km to 500 km, with a single motor front wheel drive (FWD) configuration.

Maruti eVX

Expected Price: Rs 20 Lakh to Rs 25 Lakh (ex-showroom/approx).

Expected Launch Date: December 2024

Maruti Suzuki is on track to bring its new eVX mid-size electric SUV to India. The upcoming eVX promises to deliver 550 km of driving range owing to its 60kWh battery. It will also offer both single and dual-motor configurations, expanding the customers’ choices.

Hyundai Creta EV

Expected Price: Rs 30 to Rs 35 Lakh (ex-showroom/approx).

Expected Launch Date: September 2024

South Korean legacy automaker Hyundai is expected to launch its Creta EV in the Indian market this year. It will apparently deliver a driving range of more than 400 km between charges.

Hyundai has yet to release the electric SUV’s official specifications, but reports suggest it will feature a 39.2 kWh Lithium-ion polymer battery and a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). It can generate a maximum output of 136 PS and 395 Nm of torque.

Mahindra XUV.e8

Expected Price: Between Rs 35 lakh to Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom/approx).

Expected Launch Date: End of 2024 or early 2025.

Mahindra & Mahindra is expected to introduce the new XUV.e8 in the Indian market by 2024 or early 2025 as the electric counterpart of the XUV700.

It is expected to enable a driving range of more than 500 km. It may also feature a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup or a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration.

Inside, it features three 10.25″ screens upfront, including the driver’s display, the infotainment touchscreen, and the co-driver/passenger touchscreen. It also offers level 2 ADAS technology, including features like adaptive cruise control, adaptive braking, low-speed in-path object monitors, etc.

Kia EV9

Expected Price: Between Rs 70 lakh to Rs 90 lakh (ex-showroom/approx).

Expected Launch Date: 2nd Half of 2024 or early 2025.

South Korean automotive brand Kia is planning to launch its Kia EV9 electric SUV in India by the end of the year or early 2025.

The three-row electric SUV is expected to offer two seating arrangements, including 6 and 7-seater options. It will also likely have dual motor AWD and single motor RWD setup. It shares the same Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) with the Kia EV6, which hints at a potential real-world driving range of more than 500 km.

The imminent launch of these cutting-edge electric SUVs will undoubtedly revolutionize the country’s perception of electric vehicles, owing to their remarkable driving range and high-tech features. Therefore, it would be ideal for India-based customers planning to purchase an electric vehicle to wait for the launch of these new electric SUVs in the country.
