Fiat 500e Tops EV Sales In Germany (Again)
The German automotive market remains in arrears due to several disturbances. One of these disruptions is the sudden market drop of 13% last month, year over year. The 28,815 battery electric vehicles (BEV) registrations were made last month, contributing to 14% of the overall market sales, while plugin hybrids (PHEVs) had 23,712 registrations or 11.5% of the total market sales. On the other hand, the 26% plugin vehicle share of the overall market sales kept the year-to-date score at 25% (14% BEV).
The electric Fiat again won the #1 spot in July regarding EV sales in Germany with 2,170 registrations, as it did in June. On the other hand, three Volkswagen models were among the top 5, including the ID.4 at top 2, ID.3 was 4th, and followed by the little e-Up was 5th, a significant recovery from not being in the top 1. Stellantis won the remaining two spots for the competition. Impressively, the little BMW i3 occupied the 6th position despite already being set to retire.
The #7 featured Hyundai Ioniq 5 with 1,233 registrations, followed by the Audi Q4 e-tron at the top 8 with 1,193 registrations, highlighting the elevated production of VW EV galaxy making up the first half of the list is the #10 Opel Mokka EV with 1,173 registrations.

Aside from the 11th to 14th place, including Hyundai Kona EV (1,157 units), Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV (1,112 units), Cupra Formentor PHEV (1,085 units), and Tesla Model Y (1,035 units), respectively, the second half of the table also consists Hyundai Tucson PHEV at #15 (1,025 units) and the sporty Cupra Born at #16 (1,012 units) getting best ever scores. The 17th position is filled by the Audi e-tron (936 units), followed by the 18th to 20th position filled by Mini Cooper EV (911 units), VW Passat PHEV (889 units), and VW Golf PHEV (888 units).
It is worth noting that Tesla’s Model Y has its best results in 1st month of the quarter in Germany, considering that the Berlin factory has been increasing its output. In addition, Volkswagen won 9 positions in July’s top 20.
Surpassing the top 20, Ford Mustang Mach-E got in with 549 deliveries, and Stellantis scored positive performances from the Peugeot stable. The Peugeot e-208 almost reached the top 20 with 748 registrations, while the e-2008 crossover had 546 registrations, its best result of the year. Finally, the Renault Megane EV with 752 registrations, as the French hatchback remains its best-selling EV in the Germany.
Fiat 500e Has Strong Lead at #1 After 7 months
The Fiat 500e gained significant advantage against the runner-up Tesla Model 3. The tiny Fiat is earning a valuable head start that may be vital later in the year, with the Italian EV having a 2,500-unit advantage over the US sedan. Stellantis leads the best-selling model lists in Germany and France as the Italian EV secured the top 1 in the German plugin market.

The 2nd half of the table will show how the position changed. The top climber of the month was the VW e-Up which surged 5 spots in the list, into #11, followed by the #12 BMW i3. The lowest position in the table include #17 Hyundai Ioniq 5, while the Audi A3 PHEV dethroned the Mercedes GLC PHEV in the 20th position. Since the Audi Q4 e-tron was just two units behind its smaller sibling in position 21, the number of PHEVs in the top 20 may drop to just four representatives by the end of the following month.
4 German Brands Lead Plugin Vehicle Sales In Germany
Volkswagen (10.3%, up from 9.6%) filled the first position in the brand ranking, dethroning BMW (9.9%, down from 10%), along with previous runner-up Mercedes (9.3%, down from 9.8%). The plugin market is close to matching the overall market as Volkswagen return to the top while both Premium brands lose their grounds.
In the fourth position, Audi (7.7%) is waiting to see how much Mercedes and BMW will drop. The four-ring carmaker might soon be contending for a podium spot. On the other hand, Tesla (5.4%) lost ground to Hyundai (6.3%, up from 6.1%) in the battle for fifth place, but the US manufacturer should rebound in September and may overtake the Korean brand by then.
Upon looking at the OEM rankings, the standings stayed the same. The Volkswagen Group now holds a 26.9% domestic market share, up 0.9 points. It is followed by Stellantis, which, as a result of excellent performances, increased its percentage by 0.1 points to 13.8%, putting it farther ahead of the declining Mercedes-Benz Group (11.5%, down 0.7 points) and BMW Group (11.9%), which also lost market share (-0.1%) last month, and outranked Mercedes.
On the other hand, #5 Hyundai–Kia collab (10.4%, up from 10%) won against the #5 Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance (8.6%) share.
