Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously confirmed that the leading American automaker will develop and produce a mass-market electric vehicle offering worth $25,000.

The impending launch of this new EV, also known as “Model 2,” will undoubtedly aid the company in defending its dominant position in the industry.

What’s currently known about the $25k Tesla EV

Tesla has yet to reveal official details about its planned mass-market EV offering, apart from its $25,000 price.

However, some expect the new Tesla EV to have a compact hatchback body that mirrors a “shrunken down Model Y.” It demonstrates a significant shift in the automaker’s sedan and SUV models. Nonetheless, it will enable Tesla to penetrate the profitable compact EV segment.

Tesla reportedly aims to produce 4 million units of this new EV model. It will undoubtedly be the company’s cheapest offering, considering that its current lineup costs approximately $40,000-$120,000.

The report further indicated previous speculations that the new Tesla model will have a driving range of 250 to 300 miles between charges owing to the potential utilization of the 4680 battery cells.

Furthermore, the new “Tesla Model 2” will reportedly feature the company’s iconic screen and elegant interior design. The automaker has yet to disclose more details about this. Nonetheless, we must expect the luxury features in the automaker’s luxury EV models to be excluded as it has a considerably low price.

What’s more interesting is that some industry experts suspect that the mysterious “Tesla Model 2” is a prototype of the upcoming Robotaxi.

For context, the long-promised Tesla Robotaxi is an entirely self-driving EV that would not feature a steering wheel or pedals. That said, the new mass-market EV will probably be the first phase of the automaker’s planned development of its robotaxi project.

The upcoming mass-market Tesla EV will certainly boost the automaker’s sales and delivery figures as soon as it launches. It will attract more customers, particularly those with limited buying capacity. As for the Robotaxi speculation, Tesla has yet to release more information about this projec
