The 2022 Beijing auto show, scheduled to happen in April, has been canceled after being delayed, according to CnEVPost.
“Facing severe challenges for the country’s epidemic prevention and control, the 17th Beijing International Automotive Exhibition (Auto China 2022) will not be held in 2022,” said the event’s organizers in a statement.
The exact date of the show’s next edition will be announced when available, as per the statement.
Auto China has been hosted every two years in Beijing since 1990 and has been continuous for 16 editions.
By now, the event came to be a top international auto show with the global automakers’ active participation, high attention from all walks of life, and broad international influence.
Auto China delays
Notably, the pandemic delayed the last Auto China to September 26 – October 5, 2020.
At the end of April 2021, the event’s organizers announced that Auto China 2022 would be simultaneously held in the new and old halls of the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing from April 21-April 30, 2022, with an approximate 230,000 square meters of total exhibition area.
On April 2, the organizers stated that the event would be delayed due to the Covid prevention and control situation.
Since this year, the frequent regional Covid outbreaks have led to great difficulties in organizing such large-scale events.
The Chengdu auto show started as planned on August 26 but was terminated on August 30 after only four days of the event because of new local Covid control requirements.
On November 4, the Guangzhou auto show organizing committee announced that the show, scheduled to occur from November 18 to 27, would be delayed, stating that Guangzhou’s Covid situation was still at a developing level and the epidemic prevention and control situation was serious.
However, in Beijing’s neighboring city of Tianjin, another auto show, scheduled from November 10 to November 15, began yesterday as normal.
China’s new Covid cases
China added 1,133 confirmed Covid cases and 7,691 asymptomatic infections on November 9, according to data released by health authorities.
Furthermore, Guangdong added 500 confirmed cases Covid and 2,507 asymptomatic infections, Beijing added 34 confirmed cases and 61 asymptomatic infections, and Tianjin added two confirmed cases and 37 asymptomatic infections.
