VinFast, an electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer in Vietnam, announced on Friday that regulators in North Carolina had granted the carmaker one of the environmental permits it requires to begin construction on a scheduled $4 billion EV assembly plant in the state of North Carolina in the United States.
The Vietnamese company is a subsidiary of the conglomerate Vingroup JSC VIC.HM has been making moves to grow in the United States, where it wishes to compete with already established automakers.

VinFast was awarded an “Air Permit,” the company said, adding that it was still pursuing other permits for the Chatham Country factory but would begin construction.

VinFast to begin operation in 2024
VinFast has stated that it intends to begin production in the North Carolina plant as soon as 2024, and it is anticipated that this will result in more than 7,000 jobs.
During the project’s first stage, a factory that can manufacture 150,000 vehicles per year will receive an investment of $2 billion.
The production of batteries will be the primary focus of the company’s second phase.
Beginning in late February, the automaker plans to deliver the first batch of automobiles it has manufactured in Vietnam to customers in the United States.
