Tesla is preparing to launch its first store in Chile later this month as part of its efforts to expand its business footprint in South America.
Moreover, Tesla will also initiate an inauguration event to celebrate this significant development.
Tesla expands to Chile
Tesla reportedly sent an email to prospective attendees of its planned event, as shared by X user MaxCorreaf on the social media platform.
As mentioned, Tesla aims to open its inaugural store in the Parque Arauco shopping mall in Santiago on January 31. Tesla plans to host an event party, offering its guests food and drinks and a chance to set test drives or engage with Tesla advisors.
The Musk-led automaker encourages interested attendees to reserve a spot for the event immediately as the number of guests will be limited.
“We invite you to the first Tesla location in Chile. Join us on Wednesday, January 31, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. to celebrate the arrival of Tesla in Chile with the inauguration of our first store in Parque Arauco. Enjoy food and drinks while you learn about our vehicles, chat with our Tesla Advisors, and schedule a test drive. Space is limited; Please book as soon as possible.”

Why Chile?
Tesla’s move to penetrate the Chilean electric vehicle market is unsurprising, considering the country’s stable economy, renewable energy initiatives, EV-supportive policies, and a wide pool of middle-class buyers.
Chile is also the world’s second-largest lithium producer, which can significantly aid Tesla in its electric vehicle battery supply to support its production ramp-up.
It is also worth noting that Chile set a target of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, with electric vehicles contributing significantly to this transition.
Competition
In hindsight, Tesla started posting job advertisements based in Santiago last October. The positions include a Country General Manager, a Sales Advisor, and Service Technicians. In addition, Tesla already registered its energy business in Chile.
However, BYD is now one step ahead of the Musk-led company in the lithium-rich country. BYD already partnered with Chilean dealers with its cheaper models compared to Tesla EVs.
That said, Tesla may need to intensify its push in the country to catch up with its closest Chinese rival. Launching one retail store may be insufficient for the American brand to dominate the local market. It would be exciting to see how Tesla and BYD would fare in Chile this year and beyond.
We can expect to learn more about Tesla’s expansion strategy in Chile, including its sales network, sales guidance, and offerings, at the inauguration event at the end of the month.
