Tesla CEO Elon Musk later stated that the electric pickup truck production would begin in “late 2022” at the Gigafactory in Texas. With the emphasis on getting the Model Y into production at the factory, which is delayed, it appeared likely that the Cybertruck manufacturing timeline would slip as well.

It was confirmed in March 2022 that Tesla intends to finish Cybertruck development this year for production in 2023, and Musk stated in June that Tesla plans to begin production in mid-2023.

Tesla has stuck to a mid-2023 timeline in its communications over the last few months. It is becoming more than words with production equipment specific to Cybertruck arriving at Gigafactory Texas.

The company has begun hiring for the production of the electric pickup.

Expect production of Cybertruck next year

During Tesla’s conference call for the official launch of its Q4 2022 financial results, CEO Elon Musk was asked if the Cybertruck would remain manufactured this year.

We do expect production to start. I don’t know, maybe sometime this summer. But I always like try to downplay the start of production because the start of production is always very slow. It increases exponentially, but it’s always very slow at first. So I wouldn’t put too much thought in start of production. It’s kind of when does volume production actually happen, and that’s next year

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla stated on the production of Cybertruck

Tesla’s vice president of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, added that the carmaker is currently building manufacturing lines but that the production ramp is scheduled for next year.
