Tesla’s Megapack web page disclosed in late December that Q3 2024 will now be the earliest delivery date for the automaker’s flagship battery storage system.

UpdateWhat could have caused the update?

However, Teslarati now reports that the latest update to the configurator indicated that the commercial-grade battery would have a lengthier queue once 2023 got underway.

Tesla Megapack

— Costs $2 million+ each
— Now LFP based: easier to scale supply chain, safer, longer cycle life
— New Lathrop factory can make 10,000 / year
— Sold out for the next two years

Update

If the customer chooses “Q3 2024” as the preferred delivery date, the Megapack’s price is no longer shown on the configurator. That said, viewing the Megapack costs requires changing the battery’s desired delivery date to Q4 2024.

Notably, it was visibly listed at $2,596,910 for California customers until a few weeks ago.

What could have caused the update?

Tesla bulls assume that the high demand for the Megapacks caused the sudden update to the automaker’s official configurator.

However, it may also be caused by global battery supply constraints, which could impede Tesla’s Megapack production ramp-up.

Another factor that might have influenced the update is the long backlog. If true, the Megapack has advanced to be one of Tesla’s best-selling technologies.

Tesla Megapack Uses

— Renewable Smoothing: Store & discharge renewable energy to control flow to grid 24/7
— Demand Support: Discharge during peak to support distribution
— Voltage & frequency regulation
— Market Participation: Trade energy
— Microgrid: disconnect from main grid pic.twitter.com/mJ0NpQTOw6

Notably, the Megapacks might boost Tesla’s finances soar to an unprecedented level in the coming years if it can manufacture the Megapack profitably.

In fact, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has even previously announced that its energy business Tesla Energy is capable of overthrowing its currently exceptional auto business. Tesla’s Megapacks and its other energy solutions are essential to the automaker’s vision of a sustainable future. That said, it will not be surprising if it soon becomes Tesla’s #1 product.
