In December, Tesla saw a decline in China’s wholesale vehicle shipments. Despite this, the company saw a 50% year-over-year increase in its overall result in 2022, as per InsideEVs.

Tesla China’s December performance

The China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data revealed that 55,796 Made-in-China (MIC) Tesla EVs were produced last month. That is significantly less than in November and down 21% from a year ago (70,847). (100,291).

In December 2022, Tesla sold 55,796 China-made vehicles via wholesale, representing a 21.24% dip over the previous year, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). https://t.co/wuT25YUxG7 pic.twitter.com/87hO5fb2OM

Inferred from short delivery times and various manufacturer-introduced incentives, we assume that a production pause in the final days of December and low local demand were the main factors behind the outcome. Let’s take note of the fact that Reuters predicts another production break for January.

Although it’s not great, December wasn’t as bad as anticipated. According to Tesla, nearly 228,000 units were sold locally or exported in China during the fourth quarter, a 28 percent increase over the same period in 2021.

Additionally, the overall result for 2022 is excellent at 710,865, an increase of more than 50% from 2021. Since January 2020, wholesale shipments from the Tesla Giga Shanghai plant have totaled over 1.32 million units. The plant’s current capacity may exceed 1 million units annually.

$TSLA China December wholesale number is out and it is such a disaster! Only 55796 are delivered back to 2021/9 level if lock down period is discounted. BYD with 234598, GM-Wuling with 85632. China demand will be a huge problem for #Tesla in 2023. pic.twitter.com/LHuRO22pZN
