Leading American automaker Tesla has started discounting new inventory electric vehicles in the US, particularly the Model 3. The “most sought-after” EV now starts at $39,030 before incentives or $384/month for a lease, down from the original price of $40,240.

Tesla’s pricing strategy

Keeping up with Tesla’s pricing strategy has undoubtedly been challenging. The Musk-led automaker reduced prices over half a dozen times in 2023 following substantial price hikes in 2022.

Over the past month, Tesla’s rate of pricing adjustments for new orders has slowed. However, it is interesting to note that the automaker is now establishing a disparity between its new car order prices and new inventory vehicle prices, which was not the case previously.

Before this month, the price of a custom-built car was the same as the cost of one in Tesla’s new inventory with an identical build. However, it changed after discovering earlier this month that a $500 price hike on the Model 3/Y was not applicable to new inventory vehicles, Electrek reports.

With a new reduction, it now appears that Tesla is widening the gap between the prices of Model 3 vehicles in its inventory.

The EV giant seems to have employed a $1,210 discount on new inventory Tesla Model 3 cars in the US.

As you can see in the image attached to the Tweet above, it now has a base price of $39,030 before incentives. Considering that it qualifies for the $3,750 federal tax credit, it would further drop to $35,280.

Electrek noted that the discounted price is nearly close to the original price the company was aiming for the Tesla Model 3.

Apart from that, Tesla has also reduced the lease price to $384/month.

Meanwhile, Tesla Model 3 orders’ price and June delivery for all variants remain the same. The automaker also offers an approximately $1,560 discount for the Model X car.
