Tesla’s highly awaited all-electric pickup Cybertruck has once again stunned the automotive industry with an interesting feature that the automaker has not yet revealed: a “crab walking” capability.
The spy video came from the famous drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer (@JoeTegtmeyer / X), who has been following Tesla’s movements at the Gigafactory in Texas.
Spy video highlights
As you can see in the drone video attached to the X post above, the Cybertruck stopped for a short time before slowly driving diagonally.
The content creator noted that the driving manner the electric pickup demonstrated may be similar to General Motors’ “crab walk” feature.
For those unaware, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup/SUV’s crab walk driving capability employs rear-wheel steering to improve its maneuverability and enable a more enjoyable driving experience.
Tesla Cybertruck’s potential to include a crab walk capability would be unsurprising, given that it also features a rear-wheel drive configuration.
Notably, rear-wheel-steering can be useful in various driving settings, including job sites, off-road, or those requiring intensely tight turn radius.
Mr. Tegtmeyer further raised the hype over the speculated crab walking/driving capability in the upcoming full YouTube video on his channel.
Skepticisms
Despite the growing excitement among Tesla and Cybertruck enthusiasts over the suspected crab walk capability, there are still people doubting the news.
Some even imply that Cybertruck’s diagonal movement in the video may just be a steering-related issue.
“I’m slightly skeptical here, seems like they’re having issues with the rear steering.
Maybe it got stuck while crab walking or maybe just issues in general.”

Apart from the crab walk feature, Tesla also boasts that the Cybertruck will be bullet- and arrow-proof.
Delivery target
Tesla recently announced plans to officially commence the delivery of the Cybertruck on November 30, 2023.
As noted by Benzinga, Tesla has yet to announce the Cybertruck’s official pricing, range, and initial customers to receive deliveries later this month.
Tesla will hold the delivery event at the Gigafactory in Texas, Teslarati reported. As part of the automaker’s effort to encourage customers and investors, it is currently offering them an opportunity to win entry tickets to attend the event.
The imminent arrival of the highly awaited Cybertruck will significantly boost Tesla’s sales and delivery figures in the coming quarters. EV-a2z reported that reservation holders for the electric pickup already surpassed 2 million units in September.
