Tesla expands in Austin suburb for a potential battery production site

The Giga Texas in Austin is currently Tesla’s biggest electric vehicle production plant to date. Nonetheless, the Musk-led company has no plans to scale back from expanding its footprint in Austin’s suburb of Kyle.

As per Austin Business Journal, Tesla has obtained several buildings in the 5-building Kyle/35 Logistics Park in Kyle. It has also secured leases of more than 900,000 square feet in the site’s buildings 2, 3, and 5.

In a significant development, a new filing revealed that Tesla has acquired another 127,000 square feet of the 224,000-square-foot Building 1. Therefore, the American electric vehicle giant is now dominating most of the industrial park, with at least 1 million square feet of 1.4 million square feet.

However, the reason behind Tesla’s major expansion in Kyle remains unclear.

Tesla’s footprint in Texas

Tesla continues to expand in Texas, which significantly aids Texas to become a battery cell production hub in the United States. Apart from producing its cutting-edge 4680 battery cell in Giga Texas, Tesla is also currently developing its first lithium refinery in Corpus Christi.

In addition, the Musk-led company is also constructing its new cathode factory in a separate facility on the Giga Texas site. Going back, The new site, spanning over 1 million square feet in Austin’s suburb, is likely related to battery production.
