Multinational automaker Stellantis partnered with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) on Tuesday to reduce carbon emissions in the United States‘ transportation sector, which aligns with its Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan.
Stellantis to comply with California’s zero-emission rules
Stellantis announced in its recent press release that it has teamed up with CARB to substantially cut greenhouse gas emissions not only in the state but nationwide.
As part of the partnership, Stellantis committed to complying with California’s more stringent requirement of having battery-electric vehicles account for two-thirds of new cars by 2030. The company also pledged to uphold the agreement even if former President Donald Trump returns to office and tries to withdraw the policy.
Stellantis inked a landmark agreement to curb carbon emissions through the 2026 model year, according to a statement from California Governor Gavin Newsom. As a result, it will stop about 10 to 12 million excess metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from polluting the air.
“Together, we have found a win-win solution that is good for the customer and good for the planet. We remain as determined as ever to offer sustainable options across our brand portfolio and being a leader in the global decarbonization efforts.”

Stellantis commits to EV charger deployment
Under the agreement, Stellantis also agreed to invest a whopping $4 million to install additional public electric vehicle charging infrastructures in California’s rural areas and in federal, state, and county parks.
In addition, it will invest another $6 million to deploy public charging infrastructure in other states that have decided to adopt the state’s stringent greenhouse gas emissions standards.
More to expect from Stellantis
Stellantis also promised to launch more initiatives to further boost zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) adoption, such as the following:
- discounts on new cars for car-share programs in disadvantaged communities
- financial aid for brand-neutral ZEV public awareness campaigns
- ride-n-drive events, and dealership actions to ensure the availability of ZEVs
California Governor Gavin Newsom commended this significant partnership, noting its potential to boost ZEV uptake and combat climate change.
“This partnership with Stellantis will help California achieve our ambitious goals to drastically cut pollution and get more clean cars on the roads. The biggest and most influential companies in the world understand that this is how we can fight climate change together, and it’s another example of the private sector joining California to help millions of people get into clean vehicles.”

For context, Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 aims to have BEVs account for 100% of its passenger car sales in Europe and 50% of its passenger cars and light-duty truck sales in the US by the end of the decade. To achieve that, it aims to roll out 8 new all-electric vehicle models by the end of this year.
