One of the early units of the Tesla Cybertruck recently appeared for sale on Cox Automotive’s online marketplace Manheim, with a Porsche dealership winning the bid for more than the original retail price.

According to Automotive News, the Porsche dealership is now reselling the Tesla Cybertruck for an even higher amount.

Porsche dealer bought a Cybertruck but not from Tesla

Porsche of South Orlando recently bought a Tesla Cybertruck Foundation Series launch edition in all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration for $244,000 on February 28, indicating a substantial increase from the Foundation Series’ base price of about $120,000.

At the time of the purchase, Porsche’s intention was unclear. As EV-a2z noted, the German automaker may reverse-engineer the electric pickup to gain deeper insights about its technologies or simply resell it to gain profits.

The latter guess turned out to be true, as the Porsche dealership has now listed the Cybertruck for sale again.

Flipped Cybertruck is being flipped for the second time

Porsche of South Orlando dealership is reselling the Tesla Cybertruck Foundation Series for $289,999, as listed on its official website.

Unsurprisingly, the listed Cybertruck’s VIN matches the unit auctioned in Manheim a few days ago.

The Cybertruck unit is a dual-motor AWD edition with only 69 miles on the clock. For reference, the Cybertruck Foundation Series’ original price is only about $120,000.

Tesla’s no resale policy

Tesla seeks to prevent flipping attempts for its new Cybertruck electric pickup while it pushes to ramp up production. As of now, the Tesla Cybertruck is still in limited quantities.

In early December 2023, the Musk-led company reintroduced the no-resale clause in its Cybertruck Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement after discreetly withdrawing it on November 14.

Tesla warned Cybertruck owners of a $50,000 penalty once they violate the no-resale policy:

“You understand and acknowledge that the Cybertruck will first be released in limited quantity. You agree that you will not sell or otherwise attempt to sell the Vehicle within the first year following your Vehicle’s delivery date. Tesla may seek injunctive relief to prevent the transfer of title of the Vehicle or demand liquidated damages from you in the amount of $50,000 or the value received as consideration for the sale or transfer, whichever is greater. Tesla may also refuse to sell you any future vehicles.”

Tesla expects the Cybertruck to reach volume production in 12 to 18 months from initial deliveries on November 30, 2023. It currently produces the electric pickup at its Gigafactory Texas in Austin. The Tesla Cybertruck’s high demand led customers to purchase it at a price above its retail value, demonstrating their unwavering determination to own the stainless steel e-pickup.
