Chinese electric vehicle startup NIO is reportedly gearing up to launch the highly awaited 150 kWh solid-state battery pack developed by its partner WeLion.

NIO expects the new battery technology to support a driving range of 1,000 km between charges. However, recent reports suggest that the second-gen NIO ES6, using the 150 kWh solid-state battery pack, will generate a 930 km (577 miles) driving range.

Documents show that the Nio ES6 has a range of 577 miles and is equipped with a 150 kWh solid-state battery that is slightly heavier than current lithium-ion packs but has a higher energy density. $NIO

NIO’s new battery technology

The new 150 kWh solid-state battery pack NIO intends to use on its new-gen EVs is developed by its Chinese partner WeLion.

The new battery weighs 575 kg, 3.6% heavier than NIO’s current 100-kWh packs.

It offers an improved energy density of 261 Wh/kg, which is 44.44% more than the conventional li-ion batteries. In effect, it can effectively aid NIO EVs to have more extended driving ranges and enhanced performance.

As per NIO’s user manuals, the new 930 km range-capable battery will soon hit the market. The Chinese automaker expects to launch the new battery pack in July, offering a wide range options for customers.
