Indian leading automaker Maruti Suzuki seeks to penetrate the electric vehicle market with its clever strategy, including the launch of six new models, a carpool service, and a charging network.
According to local media BNN Breaking, this strategy is crucial for the company’s goals to lead the Indian electric vehicle industry.
Maruti Suzuki to launch 6 EVs by 2030
As mentioned, Maruti Suzuki aims to roll out six electric vehicle models by the end of the decade.
This electrification push will officially kick off with the arrival of the brand’s first mid-size electric SUV, codenamed “YY8.”
Maruti Suzuki aims to launch the electric SUV in the Indian market between 2024 and 2025. It will have four-wheel and two-wheel drive configurations to appeal to a wide range of customers with varying preferences.
It will reportedly offer battery pack options with up to 500 km driving range. As for the pricing, the Indian automaker aims to ensure its affordability by locally producing the vehicle and its li-ion batteries with Toyota’s help.
Maruti Suzuki Poolkar to promote e-mobility in India
The Indian legacy automaker also eyes a new venture that may aid its electrification efforts, a carpool service potentially named “Maruti Suzuki Poolkar.”
According to Maruti Suzuki’s trademark application, the “Maruti Suzuki Poolkar” application status is already “accepted & advertised.” Therefore, we may soon witness the automaker’s carpool service launch using clean energy vehicles in India.
It apparently seeks to meet the growing demand for cleaner and lower-cost urban mobility solutions, potentially cutting traffic congestion and carbon emissions in the country’s cities.
E-mobility shift preparation with charging network
In order to support Maruti Suzuki’s electrification, it has started to prepare for the establishment of necessary charging infrastructures.
The company registered trademarks like “Maruti Suzuki Smart Charge” and “Maruti Suzuki Charge Hub” for its planned charging solutions.
Maruti Suzuki aims to deploy charging stations across the country’s public spaces with flexible usage plans to satisfy drivers’ varying preferences and needs.
All these efforts are part of Maruti Suzuki’s strategy to sell about 500,000 EVs by 2031, a significant boost to India’s electric vehicle industry.
