Swedish electric airplane maker Heart Aerospace formed a partnership with leading aerospace and defense firm BAE Systems to develop the former’s ES-30 regional electric airplane.
The press release published on March 30 highlighted that the proposed battery is the first to be equipped with an electric conventional takeoff and landing (eCTOL) regional aircraft. With this technological advancement, the ES-30 will be able to operate without emissions and annoying noise.
“Our industry-leading solution builds on decades of expertise delivering technologies and systems needed to progress sustainable transportation.
We are delighted to collaborate with Heart Aerospace on the innovative battery system for its electric airplane.”
Ehtisham Siddiqui, BAE Systems’ VP and general manager of Controls and Avionics Solutions
Why BAE Systems?
The two companies will capitalize on BAE Systems’ more than 25 years of expertise in heavy-duty industrial vehicle electrification.
“BAE Systems’ extensive experience in developing batteries for heavy-duty ground applications, and their experience in developing safety critical control systems for aerospace, make them an ideal partner in this important next step for the ES-30 and for the aviation industry.”

The electric airplane maker claims that its ES-30 electric aircraft already has about 230 orders and 100 options. Apart from that, the company disclosed that it secured a letter of intent for additional 108 units.
Heart Aerospace aims to launch the ES-30 into operation in 2028. It further aims to increase the all-electric range of the ES-30 by 50% to 250 miles (400km) range by late 2030.
“The ES-30 is an electric airplane that the industry can actually use. We have designed a cost efficient airplane that allows airlines to deliver good service on a wide range of routes.”
