American DC fast charging provider EVgo and legacy automaker General Motors announced Tuesday that it successfully topped the 1,000 fast charging stall benchmark.
For context, the two major players in the electric vehicle industry initially announced their partnership in 2020 and strengthened it the next year.
The primary purpose of their partnership is to deploy f 3,250 DC fast-charging stalls across key metro markets in the United States.
Project status
EVgo-GM partnership has successfully erected 230 fast charging stations in 39 areas throughout 27 states. The majority of the stations offer 350kW fast chargers.
The partnership aims to improve the availability of public charging infrastructures across key areas like grocery stores and city and retail centers. Moreover, it also aims to aid customers with no home chargers, including renters and multifamily dwellings residers.

The partnership conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor the successful deployment of their 1,000th fast-charging stall at the Woodgrove Festival Shopping Mall in Illinois.
Other initiatives
GM noted that EVgo is among its most favored charge point operators within its Ultium Charge 360 project.
In fact, the two companies’ partnership extends to revolutionizing the customer charging experience with its action-oriented strategy. They collaborate to conduct improved health checks within the network and offer customer education under the company’s dealer network. These initiatives will aid new customers in operating public chargers easily for the first time.
The partners also supported implementing the Plug and Charge program last year. For context, it enables seamless charging by enabling customers to simply plug their cars in without additional payment and authentication.

The lack of public charging infrastructures has been among the top barriers to wide electric vehicle adoption not only in the US but also globally. That said, EVgo and GM’s efforts to improve their availability and reliability are remarkable. It will undoubtedly aid the country’s electrification and net zero emission targets, effectively encouraging customers and investors to support the EV shift.
